BUILD A PART NUMBER
Consider the cost of the "loss of the valuable product or the cost of a lawsuit" when picking your fastener. Some real life examples: A school of higher learning had some students remove the tamper-resistant security screws and drop a 40 lb rock 10 floors onto a new Mercedes, demolishing the automobile. The cost was $50,000. A major university had expensive electronics (secured with Torx-pin tamper-resistant screws) stolen from a classroom. The cost was $30,000. An art museum is sending its Picasso paintings on tour, partially secured with hex-pin security screws. You can buy the bit at True Value hardware. Do you think it is a good idea? A major electronics company does not want anyone adjusting a control mechanism for a motor (there are large liabilities if it does not perform). They choose Keyed-lok ® to avoid any problems. Projection equipment costs $7000.00 but is stolen when it is secured with "tamper resistant screws." Keyed-lok ® screws are tested and ordered. Criminals have security bits smuggled into jails allowing them to hide drugs behind wall plates and even escape. All of these examples have "hidden costs" that far exceed the price of tamper proof screws like Keyed-lok ® and Penta-Plusú When choosing your security screw please realize that the security bits are being imported and sold at an alarming rate. Theft resistant and tamper resistant screws will only stop the naive. You will suffer loss. Can you afford the cost then? You may want to invest in the product that will give you an overall cost saving like Keyed-lok ® and Penta-plusú.

"Hidden Cost" Perspectives on Fasteners

1. Fastener stock maintenance costs are more than the fastener itself. Organizing, monitoring and restocking occupies valuable labor time.

2. The "cost of the twist" to put a screw in is more than the price of the screw. Labor costs to fasten screws far outweigh the screw itself.

3. The "cost of the walk" to get the screw is more than the price of the screw.

4. The "cost of an urgent out" is greater than the price of the fastener. You are always informed of when you are OUT, never when you are LOW. Urgent outs cost extra labor time to replenish, not to mention put a stop to production.

5. The "cost of writing the purchase order" is often higher than the price of the screw. Labor costs in ordering, documenting and follow-up are more than the cost of the fastener.

6. 25 percent of all fasteners are ordered wrong, which causes overstock. Overstock ties up cash and takes up valuable inventory space.

7. A fastener failure can cost your company its existence. Outdated or poor quality fasteners can be devasting if the part fails to perform (see examples)

8. The cost of a broken fastener in assembly can equal 1000 times the cost of the screw.

9. The time involved in dealing with the nuisance of fasteners could be the most costly of all in that your time could be spent on more important things.
